A number of Year 11 and 12 students at Tarporley High School enjoyed a residential trip to Oxford University, staying at Balliol College and visiting the University’s Open Days as well as the famous Bodleian Library.
In addition, three students Thomas Adkins, Issy Clarke and Eloise Nuttall visited the University of Oxford’s Pembroke College to take part in a language summer school at the university. Students applied successfully a few weeks prior to the trip and were delighted to have been offered this opportunity.
Whilst there, the budding linguists undertook a variety of taster language sessions including Arabic and Polish. However, the main focus of the summer school was to write a commentary based on a literary text in a foreign language. Although challenging, this was a rewarding experience, especially when Eloise Nuttall was highly commended and recognised amongst the group of students from around the country, for her work on a set of German poems.
