Tarporley Parish Council December newsletter

Out and about

Tarporley Parish Councillors are out and about each month, to monitor the overall appearance of the village and record any aspects that need general up keep and maintenance. The items noted are discussed at the monthly Parish Council meeting, resulting in the agreed actions being recorded in the minutes. The Parish Council minutes are public documents and available for everyone to read; a copy can be found on Tarporley’s Parish Council notice board.

Tarporley’s flag pole is now in full working order. This is thanks to two volunteers, both members of the Parish Council, who put aside time to undertake the refurbishment. The work was completed in time for this year’s Remembrance Sunday, where many villagers reflected on all the servicemen and women killed in conflict with a two-minute silence.

A key priority, which is discussed during most meetings, relates to parking in Tarporley. This month Parish Councillors have been linking with businesses in the village.

If you have a business on or around the High Street or in the Nantwich Rd or Birch Heath Rd Business Parks, then please remember to complete the Parking in Tarporley – Business Survey.

A very high, if not 100%, response rate is needed, in order to quantify the employee and customer car parking requirements. This is needed for discussions with CWAC regarding possible new car parks.

Thank you to those businesses that have already completed the survey.

When you read the Parish Council minutes, you will note, Councillors are currently considering the condition of benches and the village notice board, in the area by the church; the current benches and noticeboard are not in good repair. The Parish Council have agreed a budget and are beginning to explore suitable replacement options.

It isn’t only Parish Councillors who look after the village. Two members of the village, have replaced the summer bedding plants, with winter plants, in the large planters by the bus stop. The volunteers have not only given up their time to change the planting, but also provided the replacement plants. A big thank you.

If you notice something in the village that needs upgrading, please attend the surgery at the start of each Parish Council meeting; you will be made very welcome and your views taken seriously. Also, if you would like to complete voluntary work around the village, please contact the Parish Council clerks, Abbie and Delia.

It won’t have escaped your notice, Christmas is fastly approaching. The Parish Council are preparing for the annual switch on of the tree lights. The event will take place on Friday 1st December, at 6- 7 pm, around the ‘old chestnut tree”. Father Christmas will be taking time away from his busy duties, to make an appearance and speak to the children.

Many of you will know this is a busy event in Tarporley’s calendar, so to ensure we can all enjoy ourselves, we please ask people not to let their children climb onto the mound, under the chestnut tree.

The evening will provide an opportunity for fund raising by the Tarporley Rotary, who will be selling hot chestnuts, burgers etc. There will also be a collection in aid of Tarporley War Memorial Hospital, at Father Christmas’s grotto.

On Friday 8th December, there is a Carol Concert being held, in aid of Tarporley War Memorial Community Hospital, at St Helen’s Church, starting at 7pm.  Tickets cost £10 and include mulled wine, minced pies and entry into the hospital raffle. Tickets went on sale, on Monday 13th November, and are available from Blagg’s Electrical, Swaffields, The Old Fire Station Chocolate Shop, and Tarporley Hospital.

Parish Council Meetings
Second Monday of each month (except August) in the Craven Room (the downstairs room accessed from the rear car park) of the Community Centre.  Each meeting starts at 7pm with an Open Forum, during which members of the public can address the whole Council on matters of concern to them.  At 6.30pm, prior to this meeting, the Parish Council holds a surgery where members of the public can talk one to one with individual councillors on an informal basis.
