What’s on in September

Saturday 2nd September

The International Committee of the ROTARY CLUB OF TARPORLEY is collecting bras and new pants to be sent to Smalls for All, a Scottish Charity collecting and distributing underwear to help women and children in orphanages, slums, camps and schools, as well as hospitals in Africa.  Women owning underwear are considered wealthier and likely to be ‘cared for’ i.e. a male in their life.  Seen as ‘not alone’ they are less likely to be raped.  At the Rotary Country Market to be held at the Tarporley Community Centre on 2nd September, there will be a collection point for bras and new pants.  Ladies, please rummage through your undies drawer and if you don’t need it, or them, give it or them to the Rotary Club!

Peckforton and Beeston WI
In August we were enthralled by the excellent presentation John Cartlidge gave about helping solicitors and official bodies find relatives of people who have died especially those who have made no will, by using official records, family history websites, verbal interviews etc.  In cases of intestacy there is a certain legal process set down to determine the line of succession and great efforts have to be made to trace potential beneficiaries. Many years ago not everyone was literate and as a result
records were sometimes inaccurate, this makes things more difficult so a certain amount of ingenuity is involved to get to the correct result.  John encouraged everyone to make a will to make things easier for all concerned. He then went through several examples of cases on which he had worked and answered many members’ questions.  Our next meeting is on 6th September when
Margaret Bourne will be arranging flowers and on 4th October we have a talk on Guide Dogs by Karen Grimwood.  We welcome all visitors, just come along at 7.30 pm to Peckforton Village Hall and join us.  Contact Margaret Ellis on 01829 261898.
