Love match rounds off Tarvin tennis celebrations

Tarvin Tennis Club combined a celebration of 50 years of existence with the official opening of its new pavilion.  Together with the installation of floodlights the club now offers excellent playing conditions and facilities, a fine achievement for what is essentially a small village club.

Present members were joined by past players and friends and family and in scorching weather the afternoon included an American Tournament, with a break in play at 4pm for the official opening ceremony, conducted by Ted Lush, vice chairman of the Tarvin Parish Council, and Rob Millar, club chairman.  Bubbly and cake were readily consumed.

In the evening, celebrations continued at the Community Centre with a welcome drink and a lovely three course buffet meal, courtesy of Sophie Fearnall Catering.  Nearly 90 members and friends heard president Barry Cooper thank the organisers of the event and praise the work of the committee over many years which has led to the current sound position of the club with splendid playing facilities.  There was live music and the bar was also appreciated.  The evening was brought to a happy conclusion with the news that two of the younger members, Sarah Mitchell and Graham Bunting, had become engaged.
