Two small rural primary schools, Utkinton and Huxley, have achieved outstanding sporting success.
Both schools are partnered, with children sharing high-quality teaching, across a range of sports, which then feed in to intra-school competitions at Tarporley High School.
During the last term, the schools have entered seven competitions, finishing either winners or runners-up at each. This has been a great achievement, as at many of the competitions the schools have been competing against much larger local primaries.
Senior teacher at Utkinton, Gareth Coyne said: “Our curriculum is built around a wide-variety of sports, which feed into the competition calendar. All children have opportunity to be selected to represent the school and take great pride in doing so. 68% of the children in our school took part in at least one competition during the Autumn Term alone! As two small schools, competing against much larger schools is a real challenge. However, through the children’s hard work, and careful planning from teachers, we have been able to achieve some amazing results.”
