Peckforton and Beeston WI
November means AGM time and this year our President Liz Jones and our Catering Organizer Libby Warriner have both resigned from the committee and were presented with a gift in recognition of having served for many years for which we are very grateful. Two of our newer WI members have joined the committee and Ann Wall, our new President will lead us into 2015 – the WI Centenary Year. An excellent hot pot supper followed the AGM and we are now looking forward to learning how to be ‘expert gift wrappers’ at our next meeting on 3rd December and the Christmas Party on 12th December.
The next Women’s Institute will take place on Wednesday 3rd December at 8:15pm at Tarporley British Legion. There will be a wreath and a table top flower arrangement demonstration from Gaynor from the Flower Room, Tarporley, which will be raffled off at the end of the meeting, plus mulled wine and mince pies will be available on the evening.
Tattenhall Gardening Society
Come and celebrate ’14 Sips Till Christmas!’ with us on Friday 12th December at 7.45pm in the Barbour Institute. We are having a demonstration and tasting session of seasonal drinks, food and presents, just in time for last minute Christmas gifts, with the main ingredient originating from our gardens!
We will see the New Year in with our combined TWiG and TGS meeting with an illustrated talk entitled ‘Conservation on the Verge’ by Mark Watson-Jones on Wednesday 14th January 2015 at 7.45pm in the Barbour Institute. Mark will be talking about wildlife on our highways and is probably best known as the organiser of the Conwy Community Orchard Group.
Also a little reminder to stock up on sunflower seeds, as we will be featuring sunflowers in our Annual Show 2015. TWiG members free!
Visitors are always welcome to attend the meetings. Yearly membership costs £12.– for single and £17.– for joint membership. Visitors £3, Tattenhall Allotment Association members £2.
We wish you all a peaceful Christmas and a prosperous and healthy New Year!
The group meets at 7.30pm on the 2nd Thursday of every month in the Pavilion, with a talk or demonstration, some brief WI business and refreshments prepared by Members.
2014 ended on a high for Members when Julie Summers, author of “Jambusters”, joined our November meeting and gave a wonderful presentation to a Pavilion packed with both Members and visitors. The book has been the inspiration for the ITV series “Home Fires” some of which is currently being filmed in Bunbury for general release in 2015 and tells the story of the amazing work of the WI during the War.
Our first meeting of 2015 will be at 7.30pm on Thursday, 8th January when we will be focussing on winning entries for the Cheshire Show. On 12th February there will be a talk by Pat Wilson on “Iceland – Land of Fire”.
The WI is a great way to meet like-minded women, make new friends, listen to a variety of interesting speakers, enjoy some of the many organised activities or join other smaller groups for reading, keep-fit, quizzing, luncheons, etc. For more information please call Lesley Moore on 01829 262514 or simply come along to one of our meetings.
