Girls’ rights so important to Emma

Student Emma Bowman was picked to represent the school at a summit focusing on girls’ rights around the world.

Emma, who is Head Girl at Tarporley, attened the Youth for Change event as part of the Girl Summit in July, organised by the Home Office and Unicef..

She was nominated to attend this event by Eddisbury MP, Stephen O’Brien, who was instrumental is initiating the project which aims to see the eradication of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and child marriage across the World during his time as a Minister at the Department for International Development.

Mr O’Brien said: “I am delighted that Emma was selected to attend this landmark event where she was among hundreds of other young people passionate about seeing girls’ rights change for the better across the world. Her interest in this topic has developed throughout her time at Tarporley High School, and I hope that the event has re-inspired her passion to carry on campaigning and working to eradicate this practice and stand up for girls’ and women’s rights everywhere.”
