During June, Year 12 students successfully completed their Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award practice expedition in the beautiful setting of the Elan Valley in Mid Wales. For once the weather was kind to us and students set about improving their orienteering skills and overcoming the individual challenges that are explicit in an expedition such as this. During the four day trek, students encountered steep hill climbs and long days; walking for a minimum of 8 hours per day whilst carrying all their own equipment.
As expected, the team performed admirably and completed the expedition exhausted yet proud of their achievements. Their experiences will ensure they have the expertise and know-how to help them through the rigours of the five day assessed expedition, which will take place in September.
