In-form Vics suffer cup final heartache

Tarporley Vics First Team’s final run-in of League games resulted in seven wins on the run, something that Tarporley Vics FC have not managed in the Cheshire League previously.
These results included back to back wins over Barnton Wanderers FC, Golborne FC and Grappenhall FC, as well as a victory against Penlake FC. As a result of the points gained from these victories Tarporley Vics First Team climbed up the table to finish in a respectable seventh position; with a final tally of 13 wins, 5 draws and 12 defeats from the thirty games played in the League this season.
The first team also finished the season with a +13 positive goal difference highlighting the improvements the squad have made over the course of the season at both ends of the field. Tarporley Vics Reserves finished their season with two League defeats and they too finished seventh, in the Crewe Combined League.
The two Cup Finals played on May 10th resulted in two defeats for Tarporley Vics. The First Team lost their Crewe & District Challenge Cup Final 1-0 to Congleton Vale FC. The game was finely balanced and the stalemate was not broken until the second half of extra time, when Congleton scored directly from a corner. Tarporley pressed for an equaliser, only to find Congleton’s goal keeper in exceptional form.
Thanks to the players for their performance on the day and for their achievement in reaching this, our first Senior Challenge Cup Final. Big thanks also go to the seventy-plus Tarporley supporters who turned out to encourage the Team at the Final. (1st Team starting 11 photo.)
The Reserves were well beaten in their Final, where they came up against newly crowned League Champions Cuddington FC. Cuddington raced into a 3-0 lead and finally ran out 8-0 winners. The experience gained from this defeat will only make the squad more determined to progress and ensure that Cuddington and other opponents face a sterner challenge during next season.
The End of Season Presentation Evening was held on the evening of the Cup Finals and the two defeats did little to quell the enthusiasm of all attendees who wanted to celebrate an excellent season. Thanks to the Foresters Arms and their staff who hosted the evening and thanks to everyone who represented Tarporley Vics during Season 2013/2014
